Central Smith Creamery is set to modernize its operations with up to $200,000 in funding from the governments of Ontario and Canada.
The support will enable the purchase of advanced technologies, including a robotic conveyor system, liquefier load cells, and upgraded raw material management tools, enhancing product quality and processing efficiency.
The funding comes from the Dairy Processors Modernization Initiative, a program providing cost-shared assistance to dairy processors to improve efficiency, capacity, and food safety. The initiative, supported by an $8 million investment under the Sustainable Agricultural Partnership, remains open for applications.
“Central Smith Creamery plays a vital role in our community by providing jobs and backing local initiatives,” said Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough-Kawartha. “This upgrade is anticipated to boost efficiency and allow the company to meet growing demand while maintaining their high standards.”
Ontario’s Agriculture Minister, Rob Flack, praised the province’s dairy processors for their growth and contribution to domestic and international markets, highlighting the program’s success in supporting modernization.
Central Smith owners Ian and Jennifer Scates expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing its value in supporting customers nationwide.
