Canadians don’t want a new Liberal leader; they want an election.
That is the assessment of Peterborough-Kawartha MP Michelle Ferreri, who says the announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday was on-brand and ‘selfish’.
Ferreri says while Trudeau deserves blame, every Liberal MP supported everything he did for 9 years.
NDP MPs also came under fire from Ferreri, as she says they could have held a non-confidence vote two years ago but chose to stand by Trudeau and the Liberals.
Not surprisingly, the Chair of the Peterborough Federal Liberal Association had a different take on the situation. In an email to PTBOToday.ca, Lauren Hunter stated:
“We are grateful to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his many years of dedicated public service, and the positive impact that policies implemented under his leadership have had here in Peterborough riding – like the Canada Child Benefit, $10/day childcare, and a boosted Canada Pension Plan. A leadership race is always a chance for the party to get re-energized and explore big ideas for our communities, and we are looking forward to that opportunity.”
Parliament is prorogued until March 24th and right now the early stages of the Liberal leadership race are underway.
