Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal and city councillors will continue a long tradition when they host a New Year’s Day levee at the Canadian Canoe Museum.
From 1 to 3 p.m. on January 12th, residents are invited to drop by the museum on Ashburnham Road for refreshments, light snacks and the chance to talk local issues and developments with their representatives.
“2025 will be an important year for the City of Peterborough as we move projects forward, renew infrastructure, and deliver critical services” said Leal. “Please join me and members of City Council for a cup of coffee, tea or juice, light snacks, and some discussion about our community and the exciting plans shaping Peterborough’s future.”
Taken from the French word lever, meaning ‘getting up’ or ‘rising,’ levee was a daily moment of intimacy and accessibility to a monarch or leader when he or she arose in the morning. The practice dates back to the 1500s.
