The new ‘Peterborough Riding’s’ federal NDP candidate is ready to go should events in Ottawa determine an early election.
Heather Ray, who emerged as the party’s lone local nominee after nominations closed, will be officially declared the candidate during a nomination meeting in January. The 40-year-old Douro-Dummer native is looking forward to campaigning against Michelle Ferreri, the riding’s incumbent Conservative MP.
A mom and a farmer who has a Masters in international public policy, Ray says she brings a variety of life experiences to the table that equip her well to represent the riding.
While the next federal election is scheduled for October, speculation remains that the Conservatives and NDP may force a much earlier election. Should that happen, Ray says her campaign will hit the ground running.
