Trent University is projecting a 2024-25 deficit of $1.4 million.
At a recent Board of Governors meeting, university president Cathy Bruce provided an update on Trent’s operating plan and financial outlook, highlighting the impact of external factors, including federal government restrictions on international study permits and fixed provincial operating grants – both of which have affected enrolment.
Trent had planned for a 2.9 percent enrolment increase but instead has seen a decline, leading to a projected $12.9 million loss in net tuition revenue. To offset that, the university has called upon $10 million in unallocated revenue and $1.5 million in provincial financial sustainability funding, reducing the projected deficit to $1.4 million.
