City of Peterborough services will observe modified hours and closures over the holiday period, from Tuesday, December 24th, to Wednesday, January 1st, 2025. Most services will resume regular hours on Thursday, January 2, while essential services such as emergency response, public works, and wastewater treatment remain operational without interruption.

Social Services and Child Care
The Social Services administration office will close at noon on December 24 and reopen January 2 at 8 a.m. Emergency shelter services are available throughout the holidays at 705-926-0096. City-operated child care programs will also close at noon on December 24, resuming regular hours on January 2.
City Hall
City Hall, including departments such as Tax, Clerkâs, Building Services, and Planning and Development, will close at noon on December 24 and reopen January 2. Many services remain accessible online at peterborough.ca.
Waste and Recycling Collection
Curbside collection of Green Bins, garbage, and recycling will continue with the following adjustments:
- Zones 3 & 4: Moved from Wednesday, December 25, to Saturday, December 28.
- Zones 5 & 6: Moved from Thursday, December 26, to Monday, December 30.
- Zones 3 & 4 (January 1): Moved to Saturday, January 4.

Landfill
The City-County Landfill will close early at 11:45 a.m. on December 24 and 31. It will remain closed on December 25, 26, and January 1.
Recreation and Community Services
Most recreation facilities will have revised holiday hours. The Quaker Foods City Square outdoor rink will operate weekdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for December 24 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and December 25 (closed). Inclement weather or poor ice conditions may cause unscheduled closures.
Transit Services
Holiday Transit schedules will be in effect from December 19 to January 5, 2025. Late-night trips are suspended, with early-ending trips on December 24 and 31. No Transit service will run on December 25 and January 1. For detailed schedules, visit peterborough.ca/transit or call 705-745-0525.
