A 17-year-old from Selwyn was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre following a serious single-vehicle crash on Highway 28.
Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to the scene north of County Road 33 just before 8:30 p.m. on Thursday after a crash detection function on the driver’s cellphone alerted authorities. Emergency crews found a pickup truck overturned in a ditch, pinned against a tree.
Firefighters extricated the male driver, who was initially transported to a local hospital before being transferred by ORNGE Air due to severe injuries.
Highway 28 was closed between Centre Road and County Road 33 for several hours as collision reconstruction officers documented the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
Witnesses or those with dashcam footage are urged to contact Peterborough County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
