The U15 AAA Peterborough Petes clinched their second tournament championship of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 shootout victory over a resilient NCP team in the Hamilton Steel Classic Championship on Sunday. Blake Brioux scored the shootout winner, while Landon White was named the game’s MVP for his standout performance.
The Petes’ championship run was marked by determination, starting with a dramatic quarterfinal win. With just 2.7 seconds left in regulation, the Petes scored to force overtime against Sun County. Colton Adams delivered the game-winner with just over a minute remaining in the extra period, securing a 3-2 victory. In the semifinals, the Petes knocked out the host Hamilton Steel with a 2-1 regulation win, with Kalum Phillips scoring the decisive goal.
Earlier in the tournament, the Petes dominated the preliminary rounds, defeating the Waterloo Wolves 4-2, the Sault Ste. Marie Jr. Greyhounds 6-1, the Sun County Panthers 4-1, and the North York Rangers 5-2, setting the stage for a thrilling Championship Sunday.
With a record of 31-4-1 on the season, including league play, preseason, and two tournament titles, the U15 Petes have had an impressive start to the year. They’ll look to continue their strong play when they host the Ajax-Pickering Raiders on Saturday at 6:15pm from the Healthy Planet Arena.
