Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborough Family Health Team, and Peterborough Public Health are urging community members to consider alternative care options during respiratory illness season. With increased patient volumes at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, residents are encouraged to assess the urgency of their condition before visiting the Emergency Department.
For those with a family doctor or nurse practitioner, same-day appointments and extended-hour clinics are available. Residents without a primary care provider can access services such as the Peterborough Family Health Team Health Clinic, walk-in clinics, virtual care, and the Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available for those over six months of age, with options through pharmacies and the Provincial Vaccine Booking Centre. COVID-19 testing is also available at participating pharmacies.
Peterborough Public Health advises checking the COVID-19 and Respiratory Virus Risk Index for safe practices during holiday gatherings and recommends using CO2 monitors to track indoor air quality. Residents are urged to stay home if they are ill to prevent spreading infections.
