United Way Peterborough & District and Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes (PATH) are expanding their Coats for Community winter clothing program this season. Over 600 winter coats were donated between October 23rd and 26th, and donations will continue to be accepted at PATH’s location at 385 Lansdowne Street East every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
The program, which provides coats, snow pants, mittens, and other winter essentials, aims to help more than 1,000 people stay warm this winter.
Pickup at several locations for the free winter gear include Good Neighbours, Trent Valley Literacy Association, and the TRACKS Youth Program.
The Coats for Community program has been made possible in part by a generous $2,500 donation from Cogeco, which will go towards purchasing additional coats in all sizes.
United Way Peterborough & District has been running the Coats for Community winter clothing drive for almost 40 years, collecting and distributing thousands of winter garments each season. In 2023, the community’s generosity resulted in the donation of 1,844 coats and 1,272 pairs of mitts and hats, helping over 500 people stay warm through the colder months.
