A 32-year-old Whitby man is facing multiple charges following a targeted home invasion on Wednesday night. Just before 10pm, Peterborough police received a 9-1-1 call reporting three masked males carrying firearms entering a residence near King Street and Bethune Street.
Officers from the Emergency Response Team, already patrolling the area, arrived to find two suspects fleeing the scene. During an attempt to make an arrest at gunpoint, the men fled in different directions. A third suspect then exited the residence and charged at the officers, prompting a struggle before he was taken into custody. A loaded firearm was discovered during the suspect’s search.
No injuries were reported among the residents. A search for the other two suspects, including a K9 track, yielded no results.
The arrested man faces charges including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
