Two people have been charged after a stolen vehicle ended up in a ditch along Highway 7 in Central Hastings.
The incident began when OPP responded to a complaint about a dangerous driver shortly after 12:30 am near Tweed. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled at high speeds. In the interest of public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle.
The stolen minivan was later found in a ditch. A 16-year-old female and a 22-year-old male were inside, along with methamphetamine and drug-use paraphernalia. Both were taken to hospital as a precaution and then returned to police custody.
The 16-year-old faces charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, and theft. The 22-year-old is charged with possession of stolen property and failure to comply with court orders.
