The City of Peterborough is set to welcome Ilmar Simanovskis as the new Commissioner of Municipal Services.
City Council approved the appointment during its Monday meeting, following a recommendation from Chief Administrative Officer Jasbir Raina. His first day will be October 15th.
Simanovskis brings over 30 years of experience in construction, design, engineering, and public administration, having held key roles across both the public and private sectors. His career has been marked by successful collaborations with teams, stakeholders, and community members to deliver programs that meet local needs.
In his new position, Simanovskis will oversee key areas of the city’s Municipal Operations Department, including Public Works, Environmental Services, Transit, and the Peterborough Airport. Each of these sectors plays an essential role in Peterborough’s daily operations.
“As a member of the City’s Senior Leadership Team, I look forward to being part of the City’s culture of innovation,” Simanovskis stated. “My focus will be on leading and supporting the strategic service delivery needs of the community that not only address current challenges but also prepare us for the future.”
Simanovskis joins the City of Peterborough from Civica Infrastructure, where he served as Vice President, Project Portfolio. He has held several senior municipal positions, including Commissioner of Community Services in Richmond Hill and Director of Engineering Services in Oshawa and Aurora.
Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal expressed his excitement about the appointment: “We look forward to the positive impact Ilmar will have on our community, ensuring we continue to provide high-quality services to our residents.”
