A worldwide event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of the moon again sees the Peterborough Astronomical Association inviting the public to a viewing event.
This Saturday night at the Harold Town Conservation Area on Old Norwood Road, association members will mark International Observe The Moon Night. Starting at 8 p.m., telescopes and binoculars will be available for viewing of our closest celestial neighbour.
Association spokesman Rick Stankiewicz says the moon will be over half lit, with many of it features clearly visible.
Stankiewicz says in a world where divisiveness is rampant, viewing the night sky remains a unifying connection that binds humanity.
With NASA scheduling a return to the moon next year, Stankiewicz says this event provides “a bit of a springboard” for that.
The viewing event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if skies are overcast. Visit www.peterboroughastronomy.ca for any updates.
