Peterborough City Council has declined a proposal for a Temporary Use By-law that would have allowed up to 24 one-room sleeping cabins to be placed on the property at 385 Lansdowne St. E. for up to three years.
The property, formerly the home of the Peterborough Humane Society, is currently owned by Habitat for Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region, which has leased it to Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes (PATH).
PATH, a non-profit organization focused on providing homes for those experiencing chronic homelessness, had sought the temporary use to establish a sleeping cabin community as transitional housing.
Habitat for Humanity has indicated plans to work with the City on a permanent housing solution for the site in the future.
