The Ontario Provincial Police Biker Enforcement Unit, OPP Peterborough County Detachment, and Peterborough Police Service are preparing for an expected influx of outlaw motorcycle gangs during the Labour Day weekend.
The increased activity is anticipated due to a scheduled event involving these groups.
Outlaw motorcycle gangs are recognized as criminal organizations, engaging in a wide range of illicit activities that pose risks to communities across Ontario. The OPP and Peterborough Police Service are advising residents to expect an OMG presence particularly around Fifes Bay Road and Lily Lake Road in Selwyn Township during this time. In response, there will be an enhanced police presence to ensure public safety.
“The OPP Biker Enforcement Unit, OPP Peterborough County Detachment, and the Peterborough Police Service have taken measures to maintain safety in our communities this coming Labour Day weekend,” stated OPP Acting Chief Superintendent Mike Stoddart of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau.
Peterborough Police Service Chief Stuart Betts added, “We have no tolerance for criminal organizations operating in, or near, our city. Public safety is our priority.”
Anyone with information regarding illegal activities linked to OMGs is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
