Residents and motorists in Central Ontario should prepare for increased military traffic, as Canadian Army Reserve personnel participate in Exercise STALWART GUARDIAN.
The annual field exercise, held this year at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre (4 CDTC) in Meaford, will involve convoy operations with vehicles and troops traveling across major highways.
Exercise STALWART GUARDIAN, which started last week and ends Tuesday, will see hundreds of Canadian Army Infantry and support personnel from the 4th Canadian Division (4 Cdn Div) converge on 4 CDTC. Led by the 33 Canadian Brigade Group from Ottawa, the exercise also includes soldiers from the 32 Canadian Brigade Group based in Toronto. The military convoys will traverse highways including the 400, 401, 407, 410, 416, 417, 115, 69, 11, and 10, passing through areas like the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Peterborough, Kingston, Sudbury, North Bay, Barrie, and more.
During the road moves, uniformed personnel will make scheduled stops for rest, refueling, and maintenance, with no live ammunition being carried. The public is urged to exercise caution around military vehicles and is thanked for their cooperation.
This exercise is crucial for maintaining the readiness of 4 Cdn Div soldiers to support international operations and respond to domestic emergencies such as floods and wildfires.
