Canada has secured its place in the finals of the Women’s U20 World Lacrosse Championship in Hong Kong following a commanding 17-2 semifinal win over Japan this morning.
The Canadian squad, guided by Peterborough native Allison Daley, has been unstoppable throughout the tournament. After a flawless run in the preliminary rounds (triumphing over Wales, Haudenosaunee, Chinese Taipei, and Korea with a combined score of 85-6) they continued their dominant performance in the quarterfinals with a 25-2 win over Italy.
The team’s success is a point of pride for Peterborough, with locals Lexi Jenkins, who has scored two goals in the tournament, Jocelyn Lemay, serving as team manager, and coach Daley making significant contributions.
Canada will now face team USA in the gold medal game at 6:30am EDT on Saturday.
