Canada has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Women’s U20 World Lacrosse Championship in Hong Kong after a dominant 25-2 victory over Italy in this morning’s quarterfinals.
Coached by Peterborough native Allison Daley, the Canadian team cruised through the preliminary rounds, defeating Wales 19-0, Haudenosaunee 22-4, Chinese Taipei 22-2, and Korea 22-0 to enter the knockout stage as the top seed.
Peterborough is well represented in Hong Kong, with three locals involved with the Canadian team. Alongside coach Daley, Lexi Jenkins is a member of the team, with two goals so far in the tournament, and Jocelyn Lemay is serving as the team’s manager.
Canada will face Japan in tomorrow’s semifinal, while the USA and Australia will battle in the other semifinal. The gold and bronze medal games are scheduled for Saturday.
