With the 2024 Summer Olympics well underway in Paris, Canadian broadcasters are almost as familiar to television audiences as the athletes themselves.
Among those CBC television has again called upon to provide play-by-play commentary is Rob Snoek, who represented Canada at three Paralympic Games and is a Canadian record holder in track and field, having won a silver medal in international competition in 1998.
Now covering his sixth Olympic Games, Snoek says preparing for his Paris assignment covering Canadian swimmers’ participation was quite extensive.
Snoek says the return to full venues following COVID restrictions that were in place in Tokyo has provided a most welcome breath of fresh air.
As for the sport he’s covering, Snoek says there’s no shortage of compelling stories, with Summer McIntosh’s name on everyone’s lips.
Snoek, who lives in Port Hope, called Peterborough Petes games on the radio from 2011 to 2019 on CJMB-FM (formerly EXTRA 90.5, now FREQ 90.5) from 2011 to 2019.
