The St. Peter’s Saints claimed the silver medal at the OFSAA AAA Boys Field Lacrosse Festival held at the Gellert Community Centre in Georgetown, Ontario. The two-day festival featured the best high school teams from across Ontario.
The Saints kicked off the tournament with a solid performance, defeating Mayfield 11-5 in their first game on Wednesday. After that strong start, they carried the momentum into their second game of the day, narrowly edging out Assumption 11-10, securing top spot in Group D and advancing to day two’s championship round.
From there, St. Peter’s faced a formidable opponent in Christ the King, with the Saints squeaking out a 10-9 win to advance to the gold medal game against the Brooklin Bears.
The Bears came into the game with a 3-0 record as well, but with their wins coming in a more convincing fashion, outscoring their opponents 41-11 along the way. Brooklin continued their dominance in the final game, defeating St. Pete’s 11-5 to take the gold.
Although they fell short of the gold, the Saints had a very impressive year and gave an incredible effort all season long, right up until the final whistle, earning themselves a well-deserved silver medal. “The boys had a good run this season,” said Coach Mike Martone, “but came up across a really good Brooklin team in the finals.”
Members of the silver medal winning Saints were Hayden Addison, Geordy Addison, Reed Chamberlain, Brayden D’Innocenzo, Michael Donahee, Thomas Donald, Charlie Evans, Nole Faulkner, Nickolas Fournier, Liam Garvey, Clark Gutoskie, Teagan Hartnett, Porter Martone, Ethan Michaud, Evan Russelle, Aedan Temple, Kolby Vanwesten, Rocco Williams, and Ryland Wilson, along with coaches Mike Martone, Chris Gillespie, and John Keating.
There were also local connections on the gold medal-winning Bears, with Chase Parnell, son of former Peterborough Laker Shawn Parnell, and Matt Bradica, son of St. Peter’s alum Kim (Arnold) Bradica. Another local connection was on the bronze medal-winning Denis Morris Reds, who were coached by former Lakers goalie Matt Vinc.
