The Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada has officially opened its 104th navigation season. Parks Canada is welcoming visitors to explore the 450,000 km² waterway, which spans from Trenton to Port Severn, offering access to natural beauty and historic sites.
A key event this season is the Lock & Paddle event, which will return to Peterborough on July 20th, coinciding with Canada Parks Day. This year’s event will feature a new “triple crown” twist, with simultaneous paddling activities in Peterborough, Ottawa, and Montreal.
Parks Canada is also promoting extended stays with options like oTENTik, Ôasis, and reservable camping sites, which can be booked online.
Safety remains a concern, with Parks Canada advising boaters and paddlers to be cautious due to higher-than-average water flows and floating debris. Boaters are also asked to be mindful of their wake near shorelines to prevent damage.
