A one-off held in 1995 to commemorate Canadian novelist and Lakefield resident Margaret Laurence has grown into a nationally respected event.
The Lakefield Literary Festival, which also pays homage to authors Catherine Parr Traill and Susanna Moodie, returns to the village July 19th and 20th, offering readings by authors, panel discussions and the always-popular Children’s Tent and related activities.
Festival chair John Boyko, himself a published author, says the festival has put Lakefield on the map in Canadian literary circles.
While the event program is a draw, Boyko says the opportunity for authors and attendees to meet and chat with one another is equally compelling.
Boyko says contrary to popular belief, more books are being sold in Canada now than ever before.
