The 10th Annual Rotary Club of Peterborough Spelling Bee took place over the weekend, with lots of excitement and tension as students from various schools showcased their spelling prowess.
In the Junior Division (Grade 4-6), Chloe Cupit from Monsignor O’Donoghue Catholic Elementary School emerged as the champion, followed closely by Emily Gordon from Queen Elizabeth Public School and Verna Conlin-Hanley from St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in second and third place, respectively.
In the Intermediate Division (Grade 7-8), Charlotte Brown from Children’s Montessori School claimed the top spot, with Pax Wallace from Prince of Wales Public School and Adeniji Adejolaoluwa from St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School securing second and third place.
These top spellers not only earned bragging rights but also walked away with fantastic prizes generously donated by various local sponsors. Moreover, each division winner received a cash award to fund literacy projects at their schools, totaling $3,500. First-place winners received $1,000, second-place winners $500, and third-place winners $250.
The event will be broadcast multiple times on Yourtv Peterborough-Lindsay from May 11 to May 17th.
