Flora’s Walk returns to Peterborough May 11th, raising funds for two local agencies that support post-pregnancy mental health.
Set for 11 a.m. at Beavermead, the event, run in conjunction with the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative, is one of several walks being held across Canada to mark World Maternal Mental Health Month. Funds raised by the Peterborough walk to Together PTBO and the Wellnest Collective.
Perinatal health psychotherapist and Flora’s Walk co-organizer Alison Chisholm says the event tells women who are struggling post-pregnancy that they’re not alone.
Chisholm says while this is just the second Flora’s Walk held in Peterborough, she’s hopeful the event will build on last year’s success and gain momentum.
The walk, explains Chisholm, is named after a Canadian mom who, after giving birth at age 44, died by suicide as a result of undiagnosed post-partum psychosis.
