Business will surely be booming as The Old Post Office in Lakefield opens the newly redone facility to local entrepreneurs.
On Saturday morning, Selwyn Township Council members officially reopened the hub – which was originally constructed in 1914. In order to preserve the building’s heritage the interior needed the updates, says Manager of Recreational Services – Mike Richardson.
The $1.6-million project was funded in large-part by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, who covered $750-thousand of the cost. This was to attract small, local businesses to the building. Richardson says more.
The building’s contemporary interior still sports original floorboards, railings, and trim amongst other touches. Richardson says its great to keep a piece of history in what feels like a new space.
Richardson specified the renovation focused on accessibility, which is featured in the main entrance. Some of the modern day amenities added include three updated bathrooms. Along with that come quality-of-life upgrades like HVAC updates and contemporary kitchenettes on each floor – but the most noticeable will be the new elevator. Visitors are welcome to the building at 12 Queen Street, Lakefield.
