Peterborough County OPP have laid charges against a 29-year-old man after a fire in Havelock.
Police say around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, flames broke out at a multi-unit apartment residence on George Street. All occupants were safely evacuated.
Following an investigation, it was learned a man exited the building after an argument with a complainant and directly after the building became engulphed.
The accused, who was found a short-time later, has been charged with a slew of offences including: Arson – Disregard for Human Life, Fail to comply with Probation Order – two counts, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Uttering Threats – Damage Property.
The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused was held for Bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
The Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted and will be attending to investigate. A police presence will continue in the area.
