A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after a robbery earlier this week.
Police says at around 10:40pm on Monday, a 9-1-1 call came in about a robbery at a store near King and Bethune streets, where a suspect had entered the store with a pair of scissors and his face covered. The man threatened a customer and then the clerk before taking money from the register and a pack of cigarettes.
The suspect fled the scene but an officer caught up to the man matching the description given and drew their firearm in an attempt to initiate a high-risk arrest. However, the suspect ignored the officer’s demands and continued running. Officers gave chase and deployed a conductive energy weapon, managing to take the suspect into custody five minutes after the robbery call came in. During a search a post-arrest search, officers seized money, cigarettes, and a pair of scissors.
As a result of the investigation, the man was arrested and charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent, and uttering threats causing death or bodily harm.
Peterborough Police are thanking the witness for calling 9-1-1 and for staying on the line to assist in locating the suspect.
