While the third time wasn’t a charm for Peterborough musician Irish Millie, her weekend experience at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in St. John’s, Newfoundland was everything she hoped it would be.
Nominated for a third time in the Young Performer of the Year category, Millie watched on as Gatineau’s Mia Kelly heard her name called. While she would have liked to return home with an award, the Lakefield College School student says being in the same room as so many great artists was rewarding on its own.
Millie says numerous messages sent to her from local residents and fans of her fiddle talent buoyed her spirits, before and after the awards ceremony.
With next year’s awards being presented in Ottawa, Millie says it would be “crazy cool” to be nominated yet again.
