A routine traffic stop on Chemong Road last Friday has led to multiple charges for a 24-year-old Peterborough man, after an officer who was conducting speed enforcement in Selwyn Township recorded the driver going 95km/hr in a posted 50km/hr zone.
When interacting with the driver, the officer detected the smell of alcohol and requested a breathalyzer test from the driver which then led to his arrest for impaired. He was also charged with stunt driving for his excessive speed.
OPP are reminding drivers to make responsible choices when drinking alcohol or using drugs, urging motorists to consider options like having a designated driver, taking a taxi, using public transportation, or arranging accommodation for the night, emphasizing that it’s important to remember that even a small amount of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to make wise decisions.
