Not one but two Peterborough-based cheerleading teams will head to Florida to compete at the World Cheerleading Summit.
The Solar Cheerleading Club is sending a Level 1 team, comprised of athletes aged 8 to 12, to Tampa Bay at the end of April, and a Level 2 team, comprised of athletes aged 11 to 17, to Orlando in early May.
Club founder and owner Kadie Johnson, a cheerleader herself back in the day, says the club, which serves the Peterborough, Lindsay and Kawartha Lakes areas, opened just last summer.
Johnson says that the club’s competitive teams been invited to the Florida competition – two of just 50 Canadian teams invited – is remarkable considering how new the club is.
Johnson says the excitement of team members is off the charts.
Johnson says while bringing home a trophy would be nice, to be able to compete at this level is reward enough.
The Solar Cheerleading Club offers cheerleading, ninja and tumbling classes for kids aged 4 and up. For more information, including how to register, visit www.solarcheerleading.ca.
