Residents of Peterborough, Peterborough County, and the First Nations of Alderville, Curve Lake, and Hiawatha now have easier access to health and community services with the launch of two new online directories.
The launch of the directories was announced yesterday in a collaboration between the Peterborough Ontario Health Team, Peterborough County, and the City of Peterborough, hosted by Ontario 2-1-1, offering simple and quick ways to find services based on topic, location, and keyword.
The Online Directory of Health Services caters to matters such as non-urgent medical care, chronic illness, mental health and addictions, end-of-life care, and memory loss and dementia. Meanwhile, the Community Services Directory will assist residents in finding and connecting with services related to government, employment, older adults, housing, and community programs and groups.
According to Sean Martin and Sarah McLean, Co-Chairs of the Peterborough Ontario Health Team, these directories aim to break down barriers and provide better care for the community by improving access and navigation tools for patients, families, and caregivers.
Peterborough County Warden Bonnie Clark expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting the convenience it brings to residents in navigating community and medical services, especially for those without access to a primary care provider.
Mayor Jeff Leal emphasized the importance of Ontario 2-1-1 as a vital resource for residents in need of support, praising its role in strengthening the community’s safety net.
Ontario 2-1-1 operates the directories, offering its services 24/7 via phone, text, online chat, or email, ensuring that residents can easily access the information and support they require.
