Local philanthropists Martin and Denise Pick have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation by donating a generous sum of $1 million. The announcement was made by PRHC Foundation President & CEO, Lesley Heighway, during a special family event where new recognition signage was unveiled in honour of the couple.
This substantial donation reflects the lifelong dedication of Martin and Denise to their community and their shared passion for enhancing the lives of their fellow citizens. Heighway expressed profound gratitude for the Pick’s ongoing support, emphasizing their history of transformative contributions that have shaped the future of healthcare in the region.
Martin and Denise, who have longstanding connections with PRHC as donors and volunteers, cited their inspiration from the hospital’s commitment to innovation and excellence. They expressed their desire to ensure that healthcare professionals have access to the necessary tools and equipment to deliver exceptional care to patients.
The donation, facilitated through the Remembering Otto and Marie Pick Charitable Foundation, has already begun making a significant impact on patient care. Investment in minimally invasive intervention and state-of-the-art diagnostic technology has been made possible, with PRHC upgrading operating suites and acquiring advanced surgical tools.
Dr. Joslin Cheverie, a general surgeon at PRHC, praised the Pick family’s contribution, highlighting its role in enabling groundbreaking advancements in cancer surgery and diagnostic imaging. The donation also supported the acquisition of new CT scanners, enhancing the hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat urgent conditions such as cancer, stroke, and traumatic injury.
PRHC President & CEO Dr. Lynn Mikula expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Picks, underscoring the importance of their support in navigating the challenges facing the healthcare system. She emphasized the critical role of philanthropic partnerships in driving innovation and achieving the hospital’s vision for the future.
