With extraordinary vision and determination, Jo Anne Fallaise founded Jo Anne’s Place Health Foods in 1976, operating out of her Lindsay home.
That was then and this is now, and now sees the local go-to provider of natural health products housed at two storefront locations – at 1260 Lansdowne Street West in Peterborough and in Lindsay at 84 Russell Street West.
Come 1998, Jo Anne’s daughter Margo and her husband Paul Hudson were learning the business at their mother’s side, allowing Jo Anne to retire, but still honouring her long held vision of ensuring a healthy community by offering a full line of natural foods and health-conscious products at both locations. Margo and Paul remain the owners to this day.
Sharon Walker is the general manager of Jo Anne’s Place Health Foods’ Peterborough location. She says much has changed since Jo Anne first made a limited amount of product available from her home.
Walker says the emergence and embracing of certified organic products has been a major development over the past decade. In addition, consumer awareness has grown in a very big way.
