The local Operation Christmas Child initiative is underway, with residents encouraged to fill a shoebox with items for children in need around the world.
Shoeboxes are now available at Calvary Church in Peterborough and in Ennismore at Causeway Christian Assembly but Sally Rood, one of the local organizers, says people can put items in their own Christmas decorated shoebox. Items to consider gifting, says Rood, include toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items.
Rood knows firsthand the joy that a gifted shoebox of items brings to a child in need.
Rood began packing shoeboxes more than 20 years ago.
Rood adds Operation Christmas Child is an inexpensive way to make a huge difference in a child’s life.
Filled shoeboxes can be dropped off at the two churches November 13th to 19th.
Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, has collected and distributed more than 200 million shoeboxes since starting in 1993. For more information, and a listing of suggested items to include, you can visit their website.
