A local law firm has jumped to the front of the line to acquire the naming rights for the new arena and aquatics complex.
Councillors have endorsed a 10-year, $600,000 naming rights sponsorship agreement to name the new community complex at Lansdowne and Park streets as the Miskin Law Community Complex. The funding is a budgeted component of the capital project, resulting in non-tax revenues offsetting the costs of constructing the new facility.
According to a staff report, the financial terms of the sponsorship offer the City $90,000 per year for five years ($450,000), with the first payment coming upon execution of the agreement in 2023.
Miskin Law also offers legal services for Wills & Estates, and Personal Injury at their primary office located in Peterborough and satellite offices in Lindsay, and Whitby. The firm has a history of sponsoring local community organizations, including: Stage Naming Rights at Market Hall, Sponsorship of United Way, Kawartha Food Share, Peterborough Humane Society, Peterborough Sr. Lakers Lacrosse, Fourth Line Theatre, and Minor Petes Hockey teams.
Once this agreement receives final approval, a focus will turn to seeking sponsors for the remaining naming rights: two ice pads, multi-purpose room(s), running track and a library branch.
