Lakefield Youth Unlimited (LYU) is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary with an upcoming Fundraising Dinner on Thursday, October 19th. The event will showcase inspiring stories about youth and their families in the Lakefield community.
Currently, LYU operates weekly Jr. High programs in the Village of Lakefield, fostering a strong partnership with the community. The organization, comprising LYU staff members and around 40 volunteers, strives to meet the needs of local youth and their families, helping them reach their full life potential as intended by their faith.
Since resuming programming following the Covid-19 pandemic, LYU has witnessed a surge in the number of youth participating in the weekly Gym Night program held at Lakefield District Public School. During the event, 30-50 students engage in sports, activities suitable for all developmental levels, enjoy healthy snacks, participate in art projects, and learn leadership skills and character-building lessons from a biblical perspective. This is just one of several initiatives LYU will lead during the Fall and Winter seasons, including Improv classes, after-school programs, school support, and various special events.
The Fundraising Dinner, an opportunity to learn more about LYU’s past and future initiatives, will take place at the Lakefield Royal Canadian Legion (10 Nicholls Street). Punch will be served at 5:30 pm, followed by a chicken dinner at 6:00 pm. While there is no cost for the meal, donations over and above the actual meal cost ($30) will be issued a receipt in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements. The dress code for the event is casual.
Interested attendees are encouraged to RSVP by Thursday, October 12, due to limited space. For more information and reservations, please contact Katie at 705-651-0156 or email lakefield@youthunlimitedkaw.com. Attendees can also tour LYU’s new building, The Barn, located at 25 Bridge St., Lakefield ON, with punch being served from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm just before the dinner.
