Trent University is all set to kick off its 52nd annual Head of the Trent Weekend, a cherished tradition that brings the community together for a weekend of sports, music, and celebration.
From today through Sunday, the campus will come alive with a bustling schedule of events, promising an unforgettable experience for students, alumni, and visitors alike.
At the heart of Head of the Trent (HOTT) is the rowing regatta, hosted by the Peterborough Rowing Club. What began as a humble event with just 13 boats racing down the Otonabee has now evolved into one of the largest regattas on the North American rowing circuit, with over 600 boats expected to compete on Saturday and Sunday.
But HOTT is not just about rowing; it offers something for everyone. The Symons Campus will be buzzing with activity throughout the weekend:
The Stadium: Home of the Trent Excalibur
- Trent Excalibur varsity teams will be in action, including women’s rugby, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, and men’s rugby.
- The first 50 Trent students at each Saturday game at the Justin Chiu Stadium will receive special Head of the Trent swag.
- Alumni volleyball stars will return for a friendly match on Saturday morning.
The Stage: Live Music and Good Food
- Sponsored by the Trent University Alumni Association, The Stage is an all-ages, family-friendly event with live music and a large unlicensed area.
- Food from local favorites like The Trend, Pie Hole Pizza, and Drum Rock Jerk will be available.
- Enjoy live performances by HOTT favorites like Washboard Hank & Reverend Ken, as well as rising stars like Jordy Jackson.
- For those 19+, a limited-edition Head of the Trent Portside Lager from Publican House will be on tap.
The Podium: Alumni Headquarters and Campus Gateway
- Alumni can check in at the Alumni Welcome Tent for exclusive perks and HOTT merchandise.
- Trent’s five colleges will host art tours, grand openings, pep rallies, and more.
- The Trent African Caribbean Student Union Dance Party by Alumni House will feature a performance by the TACSU Dance Team.
While the celebrations promise an exciting atmosphere, the University is emphasizing the importance of celebrating safely and responsibly. Trent is collaborating closely with the City of Peterborough, emergency services, student unions, and the Peterborough Police to ensure that the festivities on campus and in the community are safe and respectful.
This year, Head of the Trent coincides with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Trent University will observe this important day on Monday, October 2, to allow more of the campus community to participate in educational and reflective events. On September 30, in recognition of the day, Trent varsity athletes will wear orange warm-up jerseys, and a moment of silence will precede the first varsity game. Orange lapel pins will also be available at various locations, including the stadium, the Rowing Club, and the Alumni Welcome Tent on Bata Podium.
