The County of Peterborough got an early start on its recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, raising an “Every Child Matters” flag at the County Courthouse on Friday morning (September 29th).
Joining County Warden Bonnie Clark for the ceremony were Curve Lake First Nation Chief Keith Knott, Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal and Peterborough County OPP Staff Sergeant Michael Cavanaugh.
The National Day of Truth of Reconciliation – being marked for the third time this Saturday (September 30th) – honours children who never returned home and residential school survivors, as well as their families and communities.
“As Canadians, we are all treaty people…it’s important for all of us to take time to learn, reflect and take action on this solemn day,” said Warden Clark.
