Monaghan Ward Councillors Matt Crowley and Don Vassiliadis will be hosting an information session at the Mapleridge Recreation Centre, located at 1085 Brealey Dr. tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The session aims to provide residents with details about upcoming changes to the Green Bin household organic waste collection service, which will be implemented starting the week of October 31st.
Key changes to be discussed include the introduction of a new weekly Green Bin service, transitioning to bi-weekly garbage collection, and the requirement for clear bags for curbside garbage collection.
Recycling collection, however, will continue on a weekly schedule.
City staff will be on hand during the information session to address questions and engage with residents regarding these service adjustments.
The implementation of the new Green Bin service is expected to have a positive impact on waste management. By diverting organic waste from landfills, the initiative will extend the lifespan of the landfill and contribute to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Approximately 8,000 households will experience a shift in their waste collection day due to route re-balancing aimed at enhancing service reliability and ensuring the safety of sanitation workers involved in curbside collection. Residents can verify their updated collection day using the online tool available at peterborough.ca/MyCollectionDay.
