Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has concluded that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that a Kawartha Lakes Police Service officer committed a criminal offense during the arrest of a 37-year-old man.
The incident unfolded on May 23rd, in response to a call reporting a man who had allegedly threatened to set fire to a residence in Lindsay.
As officers attempted to apprehend the individual and apply handcuffs, the man resisted, leading one officer to employ his knee, striking the man in the chest.
Following the encounter, the man was diagnosed with left-sided rib fractures.
After a comprehensive investigation, Martino has determined that there is insufficient evidence to suggest that the officer’s actions constituted a criminal offense.
