The Kinsmen Minor Football League returned to action on Saturday morning with record crowds to start the season.
Before the action kicked off, members of the Peterborough Kinsmen Club surprised KMFL President Bryan Junkin with a cheque for $10,000 in additional funding this year. League registrations exploded this year and Junkin states the funding will go directly to equipment purchases to allow even more kids to play the sport. “We are speechless,” stated Junkin, “To see the league grow this fast is amazing. For 43 years the Kinsmen have been there for us. We can’t thank them enough for this much needed funding!”
The action started at 9 a.m. with the Sr. Tiger Cats defeating the Argonauts 51-26. Scoring for the Argos were Landan Levesque with two touchdowns and a single point convert. Kurtis Pawlowski scored a touchdown and also ran in a single point convert. Theo Edwards also scored a touchdown. Reid Nobes led the scoring for the Tiger Cats with three touchdowns. Liam McCartie added two touchdowns. Kallen Leeson, Hunter Berardi and Gage Raby all found the end zone.
The Junior games kicked-off at 11 a.m. with the Jr. Tiger Cats defeating the Jr. Argonauts 27-0. Scoring touchdowns for the Tiger Cats were Benton Gallant with three and Jakob Yarrow with a single touchdown. Jack Trull kicked two converts and Weston Pilon ran in a convert.
In the second Jr. game the RedBlacks defeated the Roughriders 38-30. Easton Schenk and AJ Galloway both scored 3 touchdowns, and Denver Paige kicked a two-point conversion. Kaden Curtis scored 4 touchdowns and a two-point convert kick for the Roughriders. Jacob Cahorn also kicked two converts.
The day wrapped up with a thrilling 25-21 win by the Sr. RedBlacks over the Roughriders. Brody Munnings, Ashton McKinlay and Levi Paige scored touchdowns for the RedBlacks. Michael Porter and Fox Theobold scored the touchdowns for the Roughriders. Cooper Collison both kicked and ran in a convert.
Next week’s action starts at 9 a.m. at TASS with the Argonauts facing the Roughriders and the Tiger Cats taking on the RedBlacks.
