Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) has announced that a settlement has been successfully reached in a class action lawsuit concerning the inappropriate access to health records by former employees during the period between 2011 and early 2012. The settlement was officially approved on August 30th.
PRHC, emphasizing its commitment to patient privacy, says they maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding unauthorized access to medical records, adding that this settlement does not constitute an admission of liability but is “a compromise of the disputed action”.
Under the terms of the settlement, compensation is available to eligible class members. Each class member who submits a valid online claim to RicePoint, the appointed claims administrator, on or before November 30, 2023, may receive a payment of up to $650.
Class members encompass individuals, or representatives of an estate of an individual, who received notifications from PRHC in 2011 or 2012, informing them that their health records had been inappropriately accessed by one of the following former PRHC employees: Dawn deCiccio, Dana Gildon Cormier, Mandy Reid, or Andrea Kay.
To claim compensation, class members must complete an online form available at https://ricepointconnect.com/PRHC. The form will require class members to verify their name, address, date of birth, and select their preferred payment method. Once confirmed as a member of the class, settlement funds may be transferred electronically or sent by mail via cheque to the provided address.
PRHC encourages all eligible class members to review the details of the settlement and file their claims promptly to ensure timely processing.
For more information or assistance in filing a claim, individuals can visit the provided website or contact RicePoint, the claims administrator, at contact@ricepoint.com or by phone at 1-888-123-4567.
