The Art Gallery of Peterborough will mark a major milestone in 2024, celebrating 50 years since it was established in 1974 before opening five years later at its Crescent Street location overlooking Little Lake.
While exhibitions, programming and special events to mark the anniversary remain a work in progress, gallery curator Fynn Leitch says the broad plan is to reflect on the past while facilitating discussion around the gallery’s continued evolvement and place on the city’s cultural landscape. She adds the year long celebration will also provide the opportunity to welcome first-time gallery visitors.
With Artspace also marking 50 years in 2024, Leitch says Peterborough is well served in terms of access to contemporary visual art.
Leitch says, for both gallery staff and volunteers, the opportunity to celebrate the past with an eye toward the future is uplifting.
