While Canadians coast to coast celebrated Canada Day, Lorne Thurston marked a major milestone of his own, blowing out 100 birthday candles.
A resident of Extendicare Lakeland Village in Lindsay for close to 10 years, the Saskatchewan-native and former Reaboro resident shares his birthday with Canada.
Reflecting on his long and full life, Thurston jokes that he’s “done a lot of damage” during what has been a remarkable run. As for turning 100, he says we should all be thankful, first and foremost.
Lakeland Village administrator Michelle Gavin can’t say enough about what Thurston brings to the long-term care home and its residents.
Bursting with energy, Thurston walks a half-mile every day before breakfast, plays shuffleboard, sings in the choir and has never come across a puzzle he didn’t like. So what is the secret to making it to 100?
Lakeland Village also marked Thurston’s birthday with a music and cake celebration on Sunday.
