After a tight first period things broke open during the middle frame, which proved to be the difference, as the Peterborough Jr. A Lakers faced a tough 7-5 loss at the hands of the visiting Burlington Blaze last night.
The teams traded goals throughout the opening 20 minutes, with Burlington taking a 4-3 lead into the break.
However, the second period proved to be a challenging one for the Lakers as the Blaze defense stepped up their game, shutting out the Lakers for the entire frame while adding three more goals in the process, extending their lead to 7-3 after 40 minutes.
The Lakers defense tightened up in the third, preventing any further goals from the Blaze, while their offense started to find their rhythm. Peterborough managed to net two goals down the stretch, courtesy of Reece Dicicco and Ben Trumble, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are in Brampton Friday night to battle the Excelsiors before retuning home on Monday to face the Whitby Warriors at the PMC.
