With the spring melt bringing with it a higher risk for bacterial contamination, Peterborough Public Health is again offering free well water testing for North Kawartha and Trent Lakes residents until the fall.
Well water samples will be tested for two types bacterial contamination – total coliforms and E. coli. Water tainted with either, of ingested, can cause illness, with the young, elderly and immune-compromised most at risk.
Water samples can be dropped off at the North Kawartha municipal office in Apsley or the Trent Lakes municipal office. Samples can also be brought to Peterborough Public Health on King Street. New sample bottles can also be picked up at those locations.
After testing is done at the Public Health Ontario Lab, results will be mailed or phone 1-877-723-3426 for an interactive voice response.
