A Canadian Forces veteran and Peterborough resident will head to Italy this June to pedal hard and long as part of the Battlefield Bike Ride fundraiser for Wounded Warriors Canada.
Patrick Schillemat, who retired from the military in 2021, will be one of a number of participants that will tackle the rolling hills of Italy’s Adriatic coastline, covering much of the same ground that Canadian soldiers fought on, and for, during World War Two.
Starting June 11th in Ortona, the following five days will see Schillemat, along with members of his team, not only bring awareness to Wounded Warriors Canada but also raise money for its work helping those with physical and mental challenges.
In preparation for the challenging trek, Schillemat has been hard at it.
Also taking part is Miranda Zeppieri of Peterborough. To date, more than 750 cyclists have participated in the event, raising more than $3 million. Schillemat’s team has set a goal of raising $15,000. To make a donation, click on https://sch1lly.com/wwc-bbr-donate
