The Kawartha–Haliburton Children’s Foundation is marking their 40th anniversary in a fun way. The Foundation, which was established in 1983 with the primary purpose of sending kids to camp, announced earlier this week that they are bringing back the Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza fundraising event.
The event, which is in partnership with Herod Financial Services, and supported by AON, Chemong Family Dental, KOMFS, Best Western Plus Otonabee Inn and Paris Marine, will take place on Friday May 5th at the Peterborough Axe Club.
Executive Director Carrie Truman says the event is a way to help ensure that local at-risk children have the opportunity to experience the joy of camp this summer.
Truman says the goal this year is to raise enough funds to send 200 local at-risk children to camp.
Summer camp offers disadvantaged children more than just a vacation; it provides them with the opportunity to connect with new friends, to meet and build relationships with caring adults and counselors, and to get outside and just be a kid. The goal is to foster feelings of inclusion and belonging in children and build their self–confidence – camp helps them do this.
