Another St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, with the Peterborough Police Service’s preparation for what was a marked increase in calls and activity reason to make other police services green with envy.
Chief Stuart Betts says his service’s approach was well thought out, the intent being to prioritize what calls received the most immediate attention – an attempt to make the best use of the numerous resources available in anticipation of an increase in calls for service.
One particular incident, which led to a short police pursuit that ended with a K-9 unit assisted arrest after several vehicles were crashed into on George Street, drew most of the post-festivities attention. As the matter is being investigated by the SIU, Chief Betts can say much but he is quick to praise his officers’ response.
Chief Betts says input from his officers and the public on the resource deployment and response will be gather and learned from.
